On Saturday I photographed Karly & Ryan's backyard tent wedding at Karly's parent's house in Chestertown, MD. It is no secret that I adore at-home tent weddings. There's something magical about being able to marry your best friend at home with those you love. Karly did just this in the home she grew up in - which happens to be a fabulous waterfront converted barn! Ah! Can I just say that I wanted to move right in?
It was an incredibly special day filled to the brim with craftsmanship, love, and DIY. I was in heaven. Karly, Ryan, their family and friends all shouldered most of the responsibility of pulling together the details of their day. The place cards from their reception were lavender that her parent's grew right right in their yard, and the guest favors were jars of honey from their bees. Too cool! Karly's dance with her father is to a song they danced to when Karly was six and made a choreographed video for Karly's mom for Christmas. They had the VHS converted to digital and projected the video onto the tent while they danced underneath. It was the sweetest and most enchanting moment in time.
Karly donned a beautiful flower crown and Ryan looked dashing in a tweed jacket with blue shirt. White umbrellas provided shelter from the rain, along with some very useful rain boots! Nature holds a special place in each of their hearts. Karly's dress is made using a leaf print fabric, and her earrings and wedding band also hold the same shape. During their wedding ceremony Karly & Ryan held a tree planting ceremony in which they used soil from each of their parents' yards to plant a sapling.
What's a little rain when you get to marry the love of your life? These two were smiling nonstop all day long. Congratulations again Karly & Ryan! Thank you for permitting me the honor of documenting your day!
