Happy 10 Years to HRP!!

Ten years ago today I started Heather Ryan Photography!  It is hard to believe that I have been running a business for a decade, but then again time flies when you're having fun!!

My love of photography started very young and I had my first point and shoot 110 film camera in elementary school.  I have always loved photography and I was always that friend taking photos and documenting every moment :)  In spring of 2009 I had just purchased my first DSLR and kit lens.  I was in my early twenties and working full-time in DC as a legal assistant when one of my co-workers asked me to take engagement photos of her and her then fiance.  We met on a weekend at Brookside Gardens and their love was so beautiful and inspiring.  Our photo shoot was so. much. FUN!

During that first shoot I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.  My love of photography was perfectly paired with my love of people.  I had honestly never considered photography as a career path before, and I knew it would take years before I would be able to leave the security of a full-time job and venture out on my own.  It would take a full eight years of working two jobs, establishing myself in the industry, learning how to run a business, mentoring with photographers in the area, investing in quality equipment, saving for a financial safety net, and also building a wonderful client base.  In April of 2017 I took the leap to full-time and haven't looked back once.

Ten years ago, running a full-time photography business was just a pipe dream and I am so thankful that it is now my reality.  I am beyond grateful to be welcomed into my client's lives and entrusted with their memories.  It is an awesome responsibility, and not something that I take lightly.

So thank you.  THANK YOU!!  Thank you to my clients for your trust and business, and thank you to my family and friends for your love and support.  And here's to working for and chasing your dreams!

Much love, H
